How to Get Slowpoke in Yellow

Travel to the town nearest to your character. For example, if you are traveling on Route One, the nearest town would be Viridian City. Once you arrive, enter the town's Poké Mart. Approach the counter and press the "A" button. A dialogue screen will appear. Select "Items" using the "A" button. The items window will appear. Select "Pokeball." You will be prompted to enter a quantity. Use the "Up" arrow to select "5." Press "A" to finalize your purchase. Select "Finished." Leave the Poké Mart.

Enter the town's Poké Center. Approach the counter and press the "A" button. A dialogue screen will appear asking if you would like to restore your Pokemon back to health. Select "Yes." Your Pokemon will be fully healed. Leave the Poké Center. Press the "Start" button to bring up the main menu. Use the arrow keys to toggle down to "Party" and press the "A" button. The party window will appear. Select the weakest Pokemon in your party and press the "A" button. Select "Switch." Select the Pokemon that appears first on your party list. The two Pokemon will switch orders. Close the menu by pressing the "B" button.

Open your world map by pressing the "Select" button. Locate Route 12. Make a mental note of its location. Close your map by pressing the "B" button. Travel to Route 12. Walk around in the tall grass for approximately 12 steps until a wild Pokemon encounter initiates. If a Pokemon that isn't Slowpoke appears, select "Run" from the battle menu using the "A" button. Continue to walk through the grass until a Slowpoke appears. The battle window will appear. The first Pokemon on your party list will appear.

Select "Attack" and then choose your Pokemon's strongest attack. The Slowpoke will be weakened. Continue to attack the Slowpoke until his health bar is one-quarter full. Select "Item" from the battle menu. Scroll down and select "Pokeball." The Slowpoke will now be captured and you can use it throughout the game.
