How to Get Mew After the First 2 Gyms

Part of the success of the original "Pokemon" games, besides solid RPG play, was the mystery surrounding the Pokemon and the exact number of them. The most mysterious of them was the secret character Mew. Added at the last moment by series creator Shigeki Morimoto, Mew can be obtained only through the use of a GameShark or exploiting glitches in the game.

Instructions

- 1
  Avoid fighting The Youngster with a Slowpoke on the road to Bill's house on Route 25 or The Gambler on Route 8.

  Stand in front of the door that leads down to the Underground Path on Route 8. Make sure you have a Pokemon that knows how to fly.

  Walk down exactly one step.

  Press the "Start" button. If you succeed, the menu will appear before The Gambler sees you.

  Fly to Cerulean city by going to your Pokemon list and using your flying pokemon.

  Go across the Nugget Bridge. At this point, your "Start" button will no longer work.

  Walk east until you encounter The Youngster with the Slowpoke.

  Allow The Youngster to approach you. If you walk up to him, the game will freeze up.

  Defeat his Slowpoke. Your "Start" button will now work again.

  Fly to Lavender Town.

  Walk west on Route 8.

  Press the "B" button when the menu automatically pops up.

  Capture Mew when it attacks you.
