How to Beat the Fuschia Gym Leader in the Yellow Pokemon Game

In "Pokemon Yellow Version," after you obtain the Poke Flute item from Mr. Fuji, you are able to enter Fuchsia town and challenge Koga, the gym leader there. Koga's Pokemon are of a considerably higher level than the previous leader's Pokemon, so he can be a tough battle. Koga is a master of Ninjitsu and challenges you to navigate through a maze of invisible walls before you can begin the battle.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate through Koga's maze. Hug the wall to the right of the gym and walk straight. It is optional to defeat the first trainer you pass; however, it is a good strategy to defeat each trainer you pass on the way to the gym leader. This helps you to level up your team and makes it easier to find your way through the maze.

    • 2

Walk straight ahead until you encounter another Pokemon trainer. This battle is unavoidable but should be fairly easy. Juggler has a team of Drowzee and Kadabra Pokemon, all at level 31. Use your strongest Pokemon to defeat them quickly, or use a lower level Pokemon if you wish to gain some valuable experience before the battle with Koga.

    • 3

Continue straight past the next trainer (or beat him). You should be at the top, right-hand corner of the gym. Travel from this corner to the left-hand side of the room. Take one step downscreen and take another to the right. Koga's invisible walls form a shape almost like a staircase that leads you diagonally downward. You should pass another trainer whom you have the option to fight.

    • 4

Head toward the left of the screen and travel down. You will have to face another Juggler to continue. He will use a level 34 Drowzee and a level 34 Hypno. After defeating Juggler, you should be able to walk directly to Koga in the center of the gym.

    • 5

Heal your Pokemon and save the game. Make sure you have a flying-type Pokemon on your team before speaking to the gym leader. Alternatively, a fire type such as Charmeleon or Charizard can help you defeat Koga with ease.

    • 6

Speak to Koga when you are ready. He will send out a level 44 Venonat (his weakest Pokemon) to begin. Use moves like drill peck or fly to dispose of this Pokemon. Koga will then send out another two Venonats, one at level 46 and one at level 48. Continue using strong flying or fire-type attacks and these two Pokemon should eventually fall as well. Koga's fourth and final Pokemon is Venonat's evolved form: Venomoth. This level 50 Pokemon is able to use the deadly toxic move. If this move hits, it is best to heal it as quickly as possible, as it afflicts your Pokemon with a damaging poison. Using fly will dodge the attacks of Venomoth while also inflicting damage. After winning the battle, you will receive the TM06 (which teaches toxic to a Pokemon), along with the Soul Badge.
