How to Get a Shiny Starter on Pokemon Fire Red

"Pokemon Fire Red," an update of the popular "Pokemon Red" version, features improved graphics and Pokemon abilities, and a new location, the "Four Islands." Shiny Pokemon is also a new feature in "Pokemon Fire Red," where all Pokemon have a 1-in-8,192 chance of being a different color than its normal self. Shiny starter Pokemon can be obtained when selecting a starter Pokemon at the beginning of the game, but it does take some luck.

Instructions

    • 1

      Start a "New Game" from the main menu. Choose a gender, name your character and name your rival. The adventure will begin in your room in Pallet Town.

      Exit the room through the stairs at the top-right corner and exit the house through the rug at the bottom of the screen.

      Walk to the tall grass north of Pallet Town. Professor Oak will stop you. Follow him back to his lab to choose a starter Pokemon.

      Press "Start" to save the game and bring up the game menu.

      Press "A" next to the Pokeball of either Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle to choose that character as your starter Pokemon.

      Press "Start" and select "Pokemon" on the game menu. Select your starter Pokemon, highlight "Summary" and press "A" to view its status page. If there is a star next to its sprite and it has a different color than its usual form, it is a shiny Pokemon.

      Reset your game if your starter Pokemon does not have a star next to its sprite and is not differently colored.

      Repeat steps 5, 6 and 7 as necessary until you receive a shiny starter Pokemon.
