Things You'll Need
Instructions
Take your game cartridge and look at the back side of it. You will see that there is a screw toward the middle of the cartridge. Use the needle-nose pliers and remove the screw from the cartridge.
Separate the two plates of the cartridge that the screw held together. In order to do this, slide the front of the cartridge down (the side with the label). After sliding it down, you should be able to easily separate the two cartridge plates.
Locate the the battery on the circuit board that you have now exposed. It should be at the top-right corner of the board. It will be strapped to the board with two metal tabs: one on the top (the one that you can see) and another one under it.
Detach the tabs from the battery before it can be removed. Use your pliers to carefully pry the top tab off the battery and then carefully pry the battery off the tab located under it. Remove the battery.
Insert your replacement battery in the old battery's position. Make sure that the positive (+) side of the battery is touching the bottom tab (under the battery) and that the top tab (the one you can see) is touching the negative (-) side of the battery.
Make sure the tabs are securely fastened to the battery. Take some tape and tape down the top tab to the top of the battery. Don't worry if the tape touches the circuit board, this will not affect the game in any way.
Reassemble everything. Reattach the two cartridge plates together and use the pliers to screw them back together. You are now finished; enjoy being able to save your progress once again.
