Experiment with the game cartridges. Find out if the Game Boy will only play certain cartridges. If this is the case, then the cartridges are dirty and you will need to clean out the ones the Game Boy won̵7;t play. Take a cotton swab and run it through the insides of the faulty game cartridges to remove any dirt buildup. If the games still won̵7;t play, then you will need to find replacements.
Clean out the cartridge slot in the Game Boy Color. It is easy for dirt and debris to build up inside the cartridge slot and cause the Game Boy to malfunction. Take your can of compressed air and blow out the cartridge slot. Then, take a cotton swab and wipe out the cartridge slot.
Take your Game Boy Color apart and clean the inside. Flip the Game Boy Color onto its front. Using a small Phillips-head screwdriver, unscrew the six tri-wing screws. There are two screws at the top, middle and bottom. Place the screws in a safe place. Lift the bottom half of the case off the top half. Use your can of compressed air to blow away dirt and debris that has built up inside the Game Boy. Screw on the bottom half of the Game Boy Color case. If your Game Boy still won̵7;t work, you will need to seek professional repair.
