How to Connect Two Game Boys to Play the Same Game

While most of the games for the Nintendo Game Boy are meant to be played by only one person at a time, the company has developed technology that allows two or more Game Boys to be connected together. The connection can be used to share information or to allow multiplayer gameplay.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 Game Boys
  • Game cartridge (in some cases, two copies of a title are required)
  • Game Boy Link Cable (Method 1)
  • 2 Game Boy Wireless Adapters (Method 2)

Instructions

  1. Wired Connections

    • 1

Insert the game. Certain games require each console to have its own copy of the game, while others only need a single game cartridge in one of the Game Boys. Read the game's manual to see how many copies of the game are needed to play multiplayer.

    • 2

Link the two Game Boys using the Game Boy Link Cable. Note that more advanced versions of the Game Boy (such as the Micro and Advance) allow up to four players to be connected.

    • 3

Turn on the Game Boys (it's important not to turn on the Game Boys until this point in the process, or they will not be connected). The menu screen of the game you are playing will now offer a multiplayer option that both Game Boys must choose.

    Wireless Connections

    • 4

Insert the game. Some games require both players to have their own copy of the game, while others allow both players to use just one.

    • 5

Plug the Wireless Adapters into the Game Boys. They plug easily into the tops of the consoles and click into place. Make sure that both sides of the adapters are plugged in.

    • 6

Turn on the Game Boys (it's important not to turn on the Game Boys before the adapters are plugged in).
