How to Catch the Legendary Birds in Pokemon Fire Red

The three legendary birds in Pokemon FireRed are Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. Each bird is level 50 and a real challenge to catch as they often break free of the Pokeballs when you try to capture them. However, with a little patience and the right team, you can capture the legendary three.

Instructions

  Level up your Pokemon team to 45 or higher. The team needs to have one Pokemon who can use the ̶0;Thunder Wave̶1; and ̶0;Dragon Rage̶1; abilities, such as Dragonair. You will also need a Pokemon who can use the ̶0;False Swiper̶1; ability, such as Scyther or Persian.

  Stock up on many Ultra Balls. Have at least 20 in your inventory. The legendary birds will attempt to break out of your Pokeball many times, so you will need to be ready for them.

  Locate the bird you wish to capture. Articuno can be found at Seafoam Island. Zapdos is at the Power Plant. Moltres is inside of the cave near Cerulean City.

  Save your game once you have found the legendary bird. This is very important, just in case you do run out of Pokeballs or accidentally defeat the bird instead of catching it.

  Engage in battle with the bird. Use ̶0;Thunder Wave̶1; to paralyze it, and repeatedly use ̶0;Dragon Rage̶1; to bring its life down to the red or low-yellow level. Then, switch to a Pokemon to use ̶0;False Swiper.̶1; This will lower the bird̵7;s life to one hit point.

  Throw Ultra Balls until you catch the bird. This may take time and a number of tries. Sometimes holding down the ̶0;A̶1; and ̶0;B̶1; button as you throw out the Ultra Ball can help make the catch as well.
