How to Get Past Level 8-4 in Super Mario Bros Deluxe

In ̶0;Super Mario Bros. Deluxe̶1; for the Game Boy Color, Mario revisits his original quest from the 1985 game. The game features bonus games and challenges, but the eight worlds from the original quest still pose the biggest test. In level 8-4, the final stage of the game, Mario must progress through Bowser's castle, choosing the right war pipes to navigate the maze and eventually face off with King Koopa one final time. There are no mushrooms or flowers in this castle, so one hit will kill the heroic plumber.

Instructions

- 1
  Walk down the three steps and jump over the lava pit. Proceed forward and jump over the first pipe.

  Continue forward over the second pipe. Jump on the three Goombas to dispatch them or avoid them and jump onto the higher platform.

  Jump down onto the floating orange platform in the second lava pit. Ride the platform to the right side and jump out.

  Go down the first pipe you reach after the lava pit, which is the third pipe in the area.

  Proceed right and avoid the two helmet Goombas and the flying Koopas. Jump off the fourth pipe and over the lava pit.

  Jump up two squares to the left of the floating pipe. Mario will hit a hidden block, creating a platform to the pipe. Use the platform and head down the pipe.

  Pass the two pipes you come across and jump down the first pipe after the lava pit. Keep moving to avoid the flying fish. If they land on top of you, Mario will lose a life.

  Swim to the right of the screen. Pause at each rotating fire bar and keep Mario on the bottom of the water area. Head into into the pipe at the end of the area.

  Stay close to the Hammer Brother and remain under the arc of his hammers. When he jumps up, run under him and jump just as you reach the end of the platform.

  Stay away from Bowser when he is throwing hammers and wait for him to jump. Do not run toward him if hammers are coming down. Head under the jumping Bowser and touch the axe to finish the level.
