Diagnose the problem. Many times the issue will be obvious to spot (such as a cracked screen), but take the time to be sure of the origin of your problem before attempting to repair it.
Reset the screen. Sometimes the problem with the screen is not a problem with the screen at all, but with the game you have in your machine. By swapping out the game and hard resetting the system (turning it off then back on quickly), you can reset the screen. If the image locks up again, it is a problem with the screen. If not, it is the game that has failed.
Replace the screen. If the screen is physically cracked or otherwise damaged, the only option you have is to replace the screen. You can do this by unscrewing the Game Boy Advance SP and slowly removing the top half of the shell. Once the shell is removed, it is as easy as unscrewing a couple of screws, unplugging the old screen and plugging in the new screen. Once done, simply place the shell back on the main board of the Game Boy Advance SP and reapply the screws.
