How to Replace a GBA SP LCD

With the right tools and parts, an LCD fix on a Game Boy Advance (GBA) SP is not that difficult. But unless you have a sentimental attachment to your unit, you may want to consider purchasing a new or used one from a resale store or through the Internet because the prices for the LCD screen and necessary tools approach the prices of new and used devices. Either way, you can follow the steps and have your GBA SP working properly again.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the tri-wing screwdriver to remove the five screws on the face of the Game Boy.

    • 2

Open the case and remove it to reveal the edges of the LCD screen.

    • 3

Remove the glass with the tip or nail of your finger.

    • 4

Flip the unit over where the ribbon connects to the back of the LCD. Carefully remove the ribbon by unplugging the cable that connects the LCD to the mainboard. Remove the old LCD.

Insert the new LCD screen and attach the ribbon.

    • 6

Flip the GBA over again and replace the glass and then the face cover.

    • 7

Set your screws back and tighten.

    • 8

Test the GBA by powering up and seeing if your replacement fix worked.
