How to Get All of the Pokedex in Pokemon Gold Version

Pokemon Gold is the third generation of the Pokemon game series for the Game Boy. Players capture and take control of monsters, fighting other trainers and Gym leaders for their badges until they become the best Pokemon trainer in the world. One of the achievements in this game is to complete your Pokedex (an in-game encyclopedia of monsters) with information on all 250 Pokemon, which rewards the player with a Certificate.

Instructions

    • 1

Fight in grassy areas and capture Pokemon. Weaken them when fighting by lowering their hit points with attacks and status ailments to increase their capture rate. Use your Pokeball when they are at their weakest to capture them.

    • 2

Talk to NPC characters within the game to receive a Pokemon. There are only a few in the game, but each one holds a rare Pokemon. For example, Bill in Goldenrod City will give you an Eevee for free, and a character in Oilvine City will give you a Shuckle for having five Pokemon on your team.

    • 3

Trade with other players who own Silver or the earlier versions of Pokemon. The Gold version does not have Pokemon like the Silver version does, and vice-versa, such as Ekans, Vulpix or Meowth. Additionally, both versions also do not have Pokemon found in earlier reiterations of the game, such as Bulbasaur or Charmander.

Throw the Master Ball to capture any of the Legendaries. These are the most powerful Pokemon in the game: Ho-Oh, Lugia, Raikou, Entei and Suicune. Due to their strength they are the most difficult to catch with any regular Pokeball, but the Master Ball will ensure a 100% capture rating.

Use a GameShark or Pro Action Replay cartridge with your Pokemon game. These are devices which enable cheats in your game by inputting certain codes. With the proper codes you can steal a trainer's Pokemon, and even start with the initial three Pokemon.
