Getting Started
To start, Latios must be roaming in the wild. This can only happen once you have defeated the Elite Four and the Champion. Once all five trainers have been defeated, continue the game after the credits and you will start in your room. After stepping outside and talking to your dad, a news flash will inform you a Pokemon has been seen flying around Hoenn. Latios is now out in the wild.
Tracking Latios
Unlike the other Legendary Pokemon, Latios' position constantly moves from route to route. In addition, Latios only appears in random battles from the grass. To hunt Latios down, check your map to see where his location is (as indicated by the flashing Latios icon). Using Fly to move quickly between routes is a solid tactic, but be aware Latios may move to another route while you are Flying. Once in the same location as Latios, keep getting in random battles until you encounter him.
Pokeballs
Picking the right Pokeball is key to catching this Legendary Pokemon. For an easy time, just use a Master Ball to instantly catch Latios. Be aware, however, that only one Master Ball exists per game. Instead of using this rare Pokeball, you can also use Ultra Balls. While not an instant catch, they have a high catch rate and can be purchased.
Capturing Strategies
As with most Pokemon, Latios must first be weakened before it can be captured. This can be accomplished by lowering its health and giving it the Sleep status effect. To complicate this procedure, however, Latios will constantly flee from battle. While the Latios' health and status do stay the same in between battles, it does make capturing it take longer. To prevent Latios from escaping, moves such as Mean Look and Block can be used, but be warned as Latios will fight back with powerful attacks. In addition, be careful not to actually defeat Latios. Once defeated, Latios is gone forever.
