Pokemon Green Leaf Version Hints

After a number of versions emerged following the releases of Pokémon Red and Blue, the developers reverted back to their roots in 2004. Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green were released to bring it back to where it all began. Both have almost an identical story line to versions Red and Blue, provoking nostalgia for long-time players . However, the difference is that there is an epilogue in which players can catch newer Pokémon, as opposed to the first 150. Leaf Green takes more time to beat, but it's not impossible with a little time and effort.
  1. Choose Your First Pokémon Carefully

    • The versions leading up to Leaf Green had not allowed players to choose from the original three Pokémon presented in Red and Blue, but the developers brought each of them back for this version: Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. In Leaf Green, Professor Oak will be back to allow you to choose from these three Pokémon to start off your journey. Remember that whichever Pokémon you choose will essentially determine how difficult your quest is in the beginning of the game. Charmander, a fire-type Pokémon, will make the first trainers and gym leaders you run into easier to handle. Bulbasaur, a plant-type, is more likely to give you trouble in the beginning against abundant plant-type Pokémon in the beginning of your trip. Squirtle, a water-type, will not learn useful moves against your foes until later in the game. In the long run, though, won't be making a mistake by choosing any of these three because they have the potential to grow into powerful Pokémon.

    Prepare for Team Rocket

    • In Leaf Green, Team Rocket is back with a vengeance after a long hiatus. There are plenty of hideouts that you'll need to battle your way through in order to win badges and eventually complete the game. Like always, you'll need to prepare for these tough guys, and the best way to start is by leveling up your Pokémon team. Before facing Team Rocket head on, battle trainers around the city or town to gain experience points and win money -- you never know what level the Pokémon of the Rocket Grunts are going to be. After a few battles, splurge a little money at the PokéMart on status healers and potions. Typically, Team Rocket hideouts are difficult to leave and come back to, making it nearly impossible to heal up at a Pokémon Center. Just remember: There's nothing wrong with spending a little cash and using up your inventory as long as it's going to good use.

    Beating Gym Leaders

    • One of the most important parts of the game is raising your Pokémon to be up for any task. This becomes crucial as you venture to new cities and face new gym leaders for badges. Before you face a gym leader head-on, visit the gym itself and train by battling the people inside. This will give you an idea of what type of Pokémon the gym leader will have (grass, fire, water, etc.), and help you prepare your lineup by leveling up any Pokémon on your team who match up well against that type. If you don't have anything in your lineup that has an advantage, you'll learn this through battling in the gym early. Then, go catch a better-suited Pokémon. Also, the gym leader's pals also pay a decent amount of cash when they're defeated.
