How to Catch the Legendary Electric Dog in Pokemon Crystal

In Pokémon Crystal, the "legendary electric dog" is not technically a dog. The proper name is Raikou and it is an electric-type legendary Pokémon, one of five in the game. Raikou is a yellow, genderless cat-like creature with black stripes along its back and sides resembling lightning bolts. It is considered one of the most difficult Pokémon in the game to capture, along with its legendary elemental brethren Entei and Suicine.

Instructions

  Travel to the Burned Tower in Ecruteak City. The Burned Tower is located in the northern part of the Johto region.

  Go into the basement and walk up to the three statues. These are the three legendary beasts, sometimes called legendary dogs or cats. They will flee the tower.

  Encounter Raikou. This can be difficult, because Raikou moves constantly and encounters are randomized. It can be found in the grassy areas in the Johto region. Once you have encountered it, it can be tracked with your Pokédex, making it easier to find it again.

  Use a Sleep attack to keep Raikou from running. Attack Raikou to lower its health points (HP) and try to capture it with an Ultra Ball or Pokéball. If that fails, continue to attack Raikou until you are able to successfully capture it. You may need to use Sleep again to keep it from fleeing.
