Types of Gameboys

Nintendo has found great success with their Nintendo DS handheld system. But even the impressive sales of their DS handhelds pale in comparison to the Game Boy line of handhelds. Spanning nearly 20 years, the Game Boy line of handhelds from Nintendo has sold over 150 million units and has made Nintendo the #1 player in the handheld gaming market.
  1. Game Boy

    • The original Game Boy was released by Nintendo in 1989. One of the biggest contributing factors to the Game Boy's success was the inclusion of Tetris as a packaged game.

    Game Boy Pocket

    • The Game Boy Pocket, a smaller and lighter version of the game boy that ran on fewer batteries, was released in 1996.

    Game Boy Color

    • The first Game Boy to feature a color screen, the Game Boy Color was able to play both games that were designed especially for the new handheld, as well as encode games to show color where before they were black and white.

    Game Boy Advance

    • The Game Boy Advance is Nintendo's most powerful Game Boy handheld to date. A full 32-bit device, the GBA is able to reproduce full Super Nintendo-like visuals.

    Game Boy Micro

    • The Game Boy Micro is the latest in Nintendo's line of Game Boy systems. It has the full power of a Game Boy Advance system, but can fit easily in the palm of your hand.
