Pokemon began in Japan with anime, or comic books, describing the adventures of people who capture and train Pokemon. These unusual creatures evolve into different forms as they gain experience in battle. The Pokedex is an encyclopedia of different types of Pokemon. In Pokemon video games, you can use a Pokedex to help you through the game. There are also hand-held Pokedexes you can buy and use. Read on to learn how use a Pokedex.

  Fill your blank Pokedex by capturing, trading or being given the different types of Pokemon. You also can add to your Pokedex by evolving your Pokemon through battle.

  Learn more details about your Pokemon, as the Pokedex provides information about the species after it is added to your list.

  Sort Pokeman alphabetically or numerically, based on national and regional numbering.

  Earn a diploma or additional Pokemon as rewards for filling the Pokedex with the ones available in that region.
Hand-held Pokedex

  View information on all 200 Pokemon without having to capture one.

  Follow the action of as many as six of your favorites.

  Capture Pokemon in different areas, unlock mini-games and earn trainer points.

  Venture into other challenges, such as a quiz and a game involving Mudkip.
