      Understanding the toolbox area:
Next the program will take you through the basic steps of how it works. You will be given 6 squares of dirt. Some will be ready to harvest with the vegetables that were previously planted. You will go to the bottom right side of the screen and you will see a tool area. In this area you will find first what likes like a black square with little arrows pointing out. This will make the game as large as your computer screen. Clicking on it a second time will return it to normal size. You can also hit the "esc" button on your computer (normally in the top left of your keyboard). Next you will see a four point star. This helps you move around on the screen. You can also click anywhere on the screen and "drag" the area to where you want to go. You will next see a green stick figure person. Clicking here will allow you to walk around if you are not harvesting or plowing. Next is the plow tool. You will need to click on here to plow plants on your farm or anyone else's farm. The harvesting tool is next. It will allow you to harvest plants that are ready. The tool bag next to that when clicked will pop up with a plow vehicle, a camera, and a watering can. The plow vehicle will allow you to delete the plowed squares on your field. You can delete a square by also clicking on it and selecting delete but it takes 1 extra step. The camera allows you to take a picture of your farm to email to friends or use as your desktop. The watering can is used to water your flowers or your neighbor's farms. On the next row down you will see two people standing next to each other, trophy, fruit stand, a gift, a storage building and a map. Clicking on the people will show you all of your buddies (more on this later), the trophy will show you the trophies you have earned, the fruit stand is the store where you will buy your seeds, house, barns, etc, the gift shows you all the gifts your friends have send you, the storage holds all of your harvested vegetables and fruit, and the map allows you to go elsewhere in the game like the marketplace, the bank, the inn, and the realtor' s office.

To the left of the toolbox is the chat area to talk with your neighbor and potential employers. *Note-the chat doesn't work in the full screen mode. When you click "hide" where it says "chat" you will be able to see all of your neighbors.

A second, smaller toolbox is located at the top right of the screen. The first symbol is a "save" function. You want to click th

Once you understand the toolbox you want to practice on your farm. You are given $500 to start with. You should start by going to one of the corners of your farm after selecting the plow tool. You will see a green square. By clicking you will plow a small square. Do this several times and practice making straight lines. At higher levels you will be able to plow 2 or 4 squares at a time and will make things go faster for you. Every time you do this it will cost you 20 coins so save some money to plant seeds with. Once you have the plowing down go to the fruit stand or store in the toolbox. I box will pop up showing all the things you are allowed to buy. Some things are locked and will be unlocked when you reach higher levels. Decide what you want to buy then go to each square and click to plant. Sometimes you have to click it in a certain spot so you have to practice.

So you've spend your first $500 now what? Well now you have to go to work with the rest of us. Here is where the addiction starts to come in. You will earn money by working and by harvesting. Let's talk about the working part first. To work you will click on the map and select "marketplace" but you first want to select the preferences icon in the upper right of your screen and make sure the follow avatar, show plants, show buildings, show flowers, smooth graphics, and wait for each plow boxes are unchecked. This will make things go faster for you. Once you are in the market a box will pop up asking you if you want to sell things or hire people. The only time this box is important is if you want to sell your things otherwise just select the "x" in the corner to close it. You will then see a lot of other people there looking for jobs and people that are hiring. You can't tell the difference between the two. This is where the chat function comes in handy. Some employers will hire you without you ever having to say anything and some are looking for someone that is serious or funny. You never know what an employer is looking for. I can tell you however those employers will not hire you if you beg for a job or take up the whole screen with your chats. You can just hangout for a while to see what others are doing. When someone wants to hire you they will click on you and select you to harvest or plow on their farm. You will then get a message that pops up and you will select whether or not you want to job. Once you take the job you will be redirected to their farm. Once you get there you can tell what they hired you for based on the tool that pops up with your mouse. When the game loads the correct way to start work is to first say "thanks" in the chat. You then want to select the enlarge tool so you can see the farm better and then the minus tool to see more of the farm. If you were hired to harvest, look for higher paying items first like pineapples, blueberries and cotton. Go to each plant and click to harvest. You will sometimes see more than one person working on the farm so you need to work fast. Some people you see will be faster than others. There is a trick to this. If it is a small farm you need to start in the upper left corner and go down the rows in a southeast (lower right) fashion. If it is a large farm you will need to start in the Northeast corner and down the rows in a Southwest fashion harvesting only 4-5 plants in the row then go to the next r

Now that you have earned more coins you can go back to your farm and plow and harvest some more. The 1st goal is to get your entire plot filled with plowed areas and seeds planted on them. Don't spend any of your money on fences, barns or decorations at this point because you will want to move them later.

You will want to visit the realtor' s office in the map area to see the different sizes of farm land that is available. You will have to earn enough money to buy the next size up. You have to buy each size one at a time you can't earn a whole of money and buy the biggest one in the beginning.

Every time you increase the size of your farm you want to plant more. Once you have reached the largest size you will want to harvest and plow other people's farms as much as possible to earn a lot of money and get to the highest level you can in that time. Try to aim for $1 million dollars. Once you have earned this amount of money you will be able to have fun building your farm the way you want it. If you see farms you like along the way you can ask them if you can add them to your buddy list to visit their farm later. To do this you just click on them and select add as buddy then they will approve it.

Another part of the game is your neighbors. The more neighbors you have the more things you are able to do. It is recommended that you aim for 15 neighbors. The easiest way to get neighbors is to get your friends that already have a Facebook account o signup for Farm Town. You can also ask other people in the game to be your friends. Asking people you don't know is not recommended as you will need to add them as your Facebook friend first. They will then show up on your Facebook wall (including their comments). You can choose to hide their comments but their will still be able to see yours. You add other people by asking for their name or email address then searching for them in Facebook.

You will be asked to water and rake leaves here and there on your neighbor's farms. This is an automatic request setup by the game. You can also go to each neighbor's farm daily to do this. This will get you 6 XP points every time. You go to your neighbor's farm by clicking on them in the bottom left area where your neighbors show up. Then select tend to neighbor's farm.

The next part of the game is harvesting your plants. If you choose to harvest your own plants and trees you will not make as much money. Some people choose to only have their neighbors work on their farm but you can also go to the marketplace and hire someone to do it. You can hangout in the marketplace and see which person you want to hire then click on them and select hire to harvest of hire to plow. When you have someone else plow for you it will not cost you anything. You can choose to go back to your farm with them or you can stay in the marketplace to get hired by someone else. You don't need to be on your farm. Nobody can change your farm so don't worry. You may want to check in on them every once in awhile to make sure they don't have any questions. Some farmers don't like their trees done so you will find that question a lot.
