How to Get Gameshark to Work on VBA for Macs

The classic GameShark cheating device is available for nearly every video game console made since the mid-90s. Although you normally must purchase one of these devices and attach it to your console to enable cheats, hardware emulators such as Visual Boy Advance come with GameShark functionality built-in. You can find GameShark codes published in online cheat databases, including GameShark's own official website, for use with the Game Boy Advance games of your choice. Though entering a code into VBA is very simple on a PC, Mac users will need to take a few extra steps to get their codes to work. With VBA and GameShark, you can give yourself an edge in challenging games or simply skip parts that you find tedious.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Visual Boy Advance, and click "Cancel" when prompted to choose a game.

    • 2

Click the "Options" menu, and select "Add GameSharkAdvance Cheats."

    • 3

Enter your chosen cheat codes into the list. Make sure you use only 16-digit GameShark cheat codes with no spaces or dashes.

    • 4

Start your game by clicking "File," selecting "Open Rom" and choosing your game. The cheats should be enabled from this point on.

    • 5

Close your ROM by choosing "Close Rom" from the "File" menu once you are finished using your cheats. Close Visual Boy Advance and reopen it to play your game without the cheats enabled.
