About BrickBreaker
The object of the game is to demolish bricks in a field. You use a paddle to deflect a ball that continuously falls toward the bottom of the screen. The ball bounces off the paddle, the walls and the bricks in the field. If the ball falls to the bottom of the screen without being deflected by the paddle, you lose a life. As the game advances, the number and complexity of the bricks in the field increase, and capsules fall from specific bricks, giving you a new life or special abilities.
Skipping Levels
One well-established cheat for BrickBreaker allows you to skip every other level. On Level 1, press in on the jog dial when the final brick in the field is struck. The standard level box announcing "Level 2/34" will appear, along with the menu box. Select "OK" on the level box, and then select "New Game" on the menu. A new game begins on Level 2. If you complete this level without losing a life, you advance to Level 4, then 6 and so on. This may be more of a bug in the game than a deliberately planted cheat code, as it doesn't advance your score, it may not work on all versions of the game, and its benefits expire as soon as you lose a life.
False Cheats
A number of false cheats have been listed for the game. Some of these include having unlimited lives, jumping levels, adding a life, and slowing down the speed. Supposed codes include "Alt+8+8+8," but when and how to write in the code is unclear.
Strategies
There are a number of strategies that can help you advance further in BrickBreaker and earn more points. You can begin by shooting the ball to the side to make contact with the bricks as soon as possible. You can use only the laser or gun abilities while the ball is on the rise, allowing you to focus on returning a falling ball. Level-by-level guides are available that describe specific strategies for all 34 levels of the game (see Resources). Once you have completed all 34 levels, the game begins a new cycle on Level 1 with faster play.
