Jailbreak
The first step in being able to cheat in "Need for Speed: Shift" is to jailbreak the phone. Jailbreaking is a process that allows the phone to download apps different from those normally offered by Apple. It is not illegal to jailbreak an iPhone; however, it does void the warranty on the phone and brings about the possibility of downloading malicious apps. The easiest way to jailbreak an iPhone is to simple use the browser to visit "jailbreakme.com." Once the site is loaded simply slide the arrow across the "slide to jailbreak" bar and wait for the process to complete. If at anytime you wish to un-jailbreak the phone simply connect it to a computer and use iTunes to restore the phone to its default settings.
Cydia
The most widely used, trusted and available program for downloading software packages on the iPhone is an application called Cydia. This program is needed in order to enable the money cheat on "Need for Speed: Shift." Once the iPhone is jailbroken, locate the Cydia application on the iPhone main menu and enter the program. Select "User (Graphical Only)" to install the application software. The entire menu of Cydia packages is now available on the phone. Be aware, however, that normal data rates still apply, so downloading too much may cause you to go over your phone plan's data limit.
Account
The simplest part of cheating on "Need for Speed: Shift" is to begin an account. Start by download the standard game to the iPhone and start playing. Players who have already created an account don't need to worry about setting up a new one, but it is best for all players to save their game files before attempting the cheat. If possible, also save a backup copy of the game in a different location on the phone.
Cheat Patch
The money cheat is actually a patch to the game that can be installed through Cydia. In order to enable the cheat, close the game and open the Cydia application. Select the "Management" tab at the bottom of the screen, followed by the "Sources" option. Within the "Sources" section, tab on "Edit" located at the top of the screen and then click on "Add," which appears on the opposite side of the screen. Enter "http://iPhone.org.hk/apt" into the text box and click "Add Source." Then wait for the patch the download. Once the download is complete, exit Cydia and re-enter the game. The account now has $6 million in-game at its disposal. As of July 2011, this is the only cheat available for "Need for Speed: Shift."
