How to Use Codes on an Emulator

Hardware emulators are programs designed to allow a user to run software from other sources on his computer. Video game emulators are specifically designed to run ROM files, or game cartridge image files, on a computer without needing the original hardware. Another feature common to emulators is the ability to run GameShark and Action Replay cheat codes without the need for either of those devices. These cheat codes can be found on the Internet and entered in the emulator to enable a wide variety of cheats.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your emulator's Cheat Database function. For example, if you are using Visual Boy Advance, click the Cheats menu and select "Cheat List." If you cannot find your emulator's cheat database, check the program's website for documentation, and make sure it actually supports cheat codes.

    • 2

Click "Add Cheat" or the equivalent button for your emulator. This should bring up a dialog that allows you to add Action Replay or GameShark cheat codes. Most emulators support either source interchangeably.

    • 3

Find the cheat code you want from an online cheat database or a GameShark or Action Replay cheat code book and enter it in the window to add it to the database.
