How to Use the Move Modifier Code

In the Pokemon series of video games, Pokemon can have up to four moves, which are used in combat or to travel. Pokemon are limited in their choices of moves by their respective move sets, Technical Machines (TMs) and in-game move tutors, but cheat codes can be used to override existing move data and replace it with any move that you wish; these cheats are known as move modifiers. The many different versions of Pokemon use different cheat codes, but the basic process of move modifying is the same for all versions.

Things You'll Need

Any Pokemon video game
Cheat device (Game Genie, Game Shark, Action Replay, etc..)
List of move modifier cheats for the version you're using

Instructions

Changing the Data of a TM to Teach Pokemon Moves

  Set up the cheat device and the Pokemon video game in the console. Turn them on and enter a TM modifier cheat from your list. Load the game.

  Select any TM that the Pokemon you wish to modify can learn. Use the TM on the Pokemon and teach it the move. Confirm that the Pokemon has learned the move you entered the cheat for, instead of the move that the TM normally teaches.

  Save the game. Turn off the game and remove the cheat device. Continue playing normally with the Pokemon knowing the modified move.
Using a Move Modifier to Change any Pokemon's Move Without a TM

  Turn on the Pokemon game and move the Pokemon you wish to modify to the first position in your party. Switch the move you wish to replace to the top of the move list. Save the game and turn off the console.

  Consult the move modifier cheat list and find the cheat to modify the first Pokemon's first move. Consult the cheat list and find the code digits of the move you wish to teach the Pokemon in question. Insert the code digits of the move into the wildcard digits of the move modifier cheat, and write down the completed cheat.

  Set up the cheat device and the Pokemon game in the console. Turn them on and enter the complete move modifier cheat. Load the Pokemon game and confirm that the first Pokemon's first move has been replaced by the modifier.

  Save the game and then turn it off. Remove the cheat device and continue playing normally with the modified Pokemon.
