How to Change the Title Screen of a Pokemon Game

For those creating Pokemon mods, changing the title screen becomes important as it will give users their first impression of the mod. The title screens are made up of six parts: three images and their corresponding tile sets. You will have to edit each of these with additional software that you must download. As it involves creating and manipulating tile sets, it will involve a lot of experimentation. Save your work often. No matter how you are creating your Pokemon hack, the basic way of changing the title screen remains the same.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Unlz-Gba tool and load the game you are editing by clicking on "Open File."

    • 2

Extract files 2009 through 2014. This number may vary depending on the version of the game. Scroll through the images in the game using this program. The title screen images will be grouped together.

    • 3

Find the file that has the name of the Pokemon that appears on the title screen. Open it in MSPaint.

    • 4

Change the image to something else, such as another Pokemon. Save the file.

    • 5

Open the file in Cyclone. You will see the image as you remembered it on the left and (most likely) a jumbled version on the right. This image on the left is now your tile set. Here you must experiment with the options to perfect how the image will appear on the screen. Typically you will have to click on individual tiles in the set and then click on the window on the right to place them.

    • 6

Repeat Step 4 and Step 5 for the Pokemon logo and the "'Press Start'/'Gamefreak'" tile sets.

    • 7

Import the files, using Unlz-Gba, back into the hack by clicking on "Import."

    • 8

Run the hack to test how it looks.

    • 9

      Make adjustments as necessary.
