How to Use the Action Replay on the R4 Chip

The R4 Simply is a media cartridge for Nintendo DS and DS lite that allows players to download and play home-brewed games and software from the Internet on a hand-held console. Another use of the cartridge, though, is as a cheat device: Any cheats that can be used for the system's better-known Action Replay family of cartridges can also be used with R4 Simply. All that's required is syncing the device with the Action Replay software.

  Download the Action Replay Cheat Manager software from the Codejunkies website. Install by double-clicking and running the file \"Setup.exe.\"

  Download the Nintendo DS Code Editor and unzip to your desktop.

  Open the Code Manager Software from your desktop or the \"Action Replay DS\" section of the Start Menu.

  Click \"Subscriptions\" within the Code Manager Software. Right-click \"Codejunkies US Games\" and select \"Copy.\"

  Right-click within the \"My Codelists\" field and select \"Paste.\"

  Open Action Replay Code Editor from the folder created in Step 2. Open the program's \"File\" menu and select \"Import XML.\" Navigate to the following file and double-click to open:
  
  \"C:\\Program Files\\Datel\\Action Replay Code Manager\\local_codelists\\customcodelist.xml\"

  Open the \"File\" menu and select \"Save Cheat Database.\" Enter the file name \"usrcheat.dat\" and click \"Save.\"

  Navigate to the directory \"C:\\Program Files\\Datel\\Action Replay Code Manager\\local_codelists.\" Right-click the \"usrcheat.dat\" file created in Step 7 and select \"Copy.\"

  Connect your R4 Simply's SD card to your computer using the SD card reader supplied with the device. Open the SD card in \"My Computer\" and open the \"System\" folder. Right-click and select \"Paste.\"

  Eject and remove your SD card and insert the card into your R4 Simply card. Insert the R4 card into your Nintendo DS and turn the system on.

  Highlight the game you wish to use cheats for within the R4 Simply system menu. Press \"Y\" to bring up a list of available cheats for the game. Select a cheat by highlighting it with the D-pad and pressing \"A,\" then launch the game as normal to play with the cheat activated.
