Actively move around the building. You will need to get comfortable with the layout and know the zombie entry points. Don't try to shoot from the windows, but let the zombies come up and start to break the barricades down and try to enter. Kill two zombies using your pistol to allow yourself to buy the carbine. Use the carbine to get a few more kills, then buy the Kar98K to finish the swarms of approaching zombies. You should be able to reach level four with ease by this point. Purchase the middle stairs to go upstairs and buy the trench gun to trade out for the pistol. By now you will either be using the Kar98K or carbine and trench gun.
Now your job is to camp in this room for about two levels. When you have a break, repair the window in the long room where you bought the trench gun. Leave the slower zombies for last as you may be able to knife them and save some ammo. It may sound tedious, but after every zombie you kill, reload! You do not want to be left with only a few bullets in your gun when a swarm of zombies approaches. Buy the stairs to go down to the help room to get to the mystery box. If you get the magnum gun, you've struck gold, but really any machine gun will do. The magnum is a one-shot, one-kill weapon, which is good to have.
Get back upstairs and go to where you originally bought your trench gun. Make sure the window in the back is built up, so you can put your back to the far wall/sandbag area. Here you will camp, killing swarms of zombies by using grenades and long-range killing. Shoot the faster zombies in the feet and they will slow down considerably. This is basically it. You need to frequently repair the far window, which will load you up with many points and will kill your zombies with some distance between you. Using this strategy, you should be able to reach at least level 20!
