How Do I Play With Luigi on the New Super Mario Bros.?

DS Version

  Play as Mario in the DS version of New Super Mario Bros. Make sure you have at least one saved game in your saved game folder.

  Play as Luigi after you have saved a game as Mario. At the ̶0;Select a File̶1; screen, press the "L" and "R" buttons at the same time.

  Select a saved game with the "A" button while you are still pressing the "L" and "R" buttons. This will allow you to play the game as Luigi.

Wii Version, Multiplayer Mode

  Play as Luigi in multiplayer mode with other players. Select the number of people who are playing the game, then scroll through the characters and select Luigi. You will then play the game as Luigi.

  Play as Luigi in multiplayer mode but on your own by putting Mario in a bubble. Choose a two-player game. Allow Player One (always Mario) to lose a life by falling off the screen or bumping into an enemy. He will return to the game encased in a bubble, unable to play until freed by you.

  Keep Mario in the bubble for the rest of the game while you play as Luigi. The bubble will stay in the screen with Luigi and might get in your way, but do not let Luigi touch the bubble, or Mario will be freed. If Mario does get free, let him lose a life again and re-emerge in a bubble while you continue playing as Luigi.

Wii Version, Single-Player Mode

  Play as Luigi in single-player mode by activating the Super Guide Block. First play as Mario and ̶0;die̶1; eight times on one level. This will cause the green Super Guide Block to appear.

  Hit the Super Guide Block with Mario to restart the level in Super Guide mode. Mario will then be replaced with Luigi, who will play through the level under computer control. This mode will not reveal secrets or shortcuts, and you will not be able to play alongside Luigi as Mario.

  Press the "+" button while you are in Super Guide mode and Luigi is playing through the level. This will allow you to exit Super Guide mode, take control and play as Luigi through the rest of the level. Because Super Guide mode is available only at the start of a level, once you take control of Luigi, you will not be able to re-enter Super Guide mode.
