Finding the History of the Fire Magic
When you find yourself talking with the librarian trying to find the book that you are looking for, don't be too worried when you are told to find the History of the Fire Magic. Your quest lineup will tell you to go to Firecate Alley. This simply means you have to go there to get the book that you are looking for. In order to obtain the book you are looking for, you must fight Prince Alicane Swiftarrow in the Fire Globe Theater. Once he has been defeated, the book is next to Alicane Swiftarrow.
Two Pips Are Better Than One
One-pip spells simply won't work well on your enemies. The trick is to keep, at a minimum, two pips on hand. If you can have more, do so. While you fight, use your pips wisely. Do not waste them on a weaker enemy who you can battle on your own. Use them on an enemy you know will be stronger than you. Once you've chosen the enemy to use your pips on, don't simply throw one at a time; do two at a time. This leaves less time for your enemy to recover.
Getting Extra Pips
It is absolutely necessary to subscribe a friend, or port a friend, in Marleybone in order to go to Digmore Station. Once you have done so, at Digmore Station, go to the mayor. Behind him will be a staircase that leads to a door. Inside, there is a room where there is a man who can give you cards. There is a card for each school. This is key because you don't have to gain training points to earn these cards. With the card, come extra pips that you can use in battle or on a mission. However, you must be a level 25 to do this.
