Cheats
To manually set how much dinar your character has, download a program called "Memory Gutter XP." Open "Tradewinds 2" in Windowed mode, and check how much money you have. For example, assume you have 1999 dinar. Open "Memory Gutter XP" and select "Tradewinds 2" from the process list provided and confirm your selection. Click the "Search" button, and search for the value 1999. Several processes should appear, select them so they appear in the window at the bottom. Right-click the memory addresses, and change the value to how much money you want your character to have. The game only supports nine characters, so the maximum value for the address is 999999999.
Tips
When you first play the game, play in Story mode. The difficulty in Story mode is lower than in other modes and will allow you to get a grasp of the game's economy.
When entering a port, make sure to note the weapons on the contraband list. Banned goods are sold for significantly higher prices than legal goods, which increases your profit margin.
Having unarmed ships in your fleet is important because they can carry more cargo. In order to prevent them from sinking during a battle, you must protect them adequately. When attacked by pirates, select your unarmed ships and have them flee battle in order to protect your investment.
If you are stumped at any point in the game, visit an alehouse. Buy a round of drinks at the alehouse, and the patrons will give you hints on how to accomplish your current task. You can also receive information on trade trends and what is in demand in different ports.
Tricks
If you have a surplus of money and want to conserve cannon ammo, buy many chain ammo and cheap fire pots. When you engage pirates in battle, spam fire your pots and chains to conserve your cannon balls.
Battles will not begin until you fire your first shot. Take advantage of this by strategically placing your ships in formations that will allow you to quickly sink pirate attackers.
If you are having trouble getting started in Free Trade mode, begin by purchasing wine and salt. Buy salt anytime you can find it for around 40 dinar and wine for around 100. You will easily be able to sell both of these items for profit; use this to help you start with a solid financial base.
