How Can I Get Raichu in Super Smash Bros. Melee?

Raichu, or the evolved form of the thunder Pokemon Pikachu, is a challenging character to unlock in the Super Smash Bros. Melee game for the GameCube. Like in most video games, unlocking new characters in Melee requires that certain challenges be overcome--but unlocking Raichu is especially difficult comparatively.

Instructions

      Select Pichu. Pichu is another thunder Pokemon like Raichu and Pikachu.

      Start event 51 on the game. If event 51 is not yet available, play until you reach event 51.

      Beat event 51 with Pichu. It might take a few tries to win with Pichu, so don't get discouraged. After beating event 51, Raichu will appear and will issue a challenge. Whether Raichu wins or loses to Pichu, the Raichu character will be unlocked and replaces Pichu in the character selection page.
