How to Evolve to a Chao in SAB2

In the game "Sonic Adventure 2: Battle" for the Nintendo Gamecube, the Chao Garden is considered by many players to be somewhere between a minigame and an entirely separate game from the main Sonic game. In the Chao Garden, you can raise and breed tiny creatures known as "Chao." You can teach them how to dance and play instruments, give them masks to wear or even transform them. However, one of the most important aspects of playing in the Chao Garden is learning how to properly evolve your Chao. Your Chao begins as a baby and evolves based on the items that you give it. Different items will produce very different Chao.

Instructions

    • 1

Hatch your Chao. When you first enter the Chao Garden, there are two Chao eggs that you must hatch. There are several ways to hatch them, but the correct way to do it is to walk up to an egg until the action button says "Pick." Hold the "Action" button to pick the egg up, rock it a few times and set it back down. A Chao will pop out right after that. Other methods include letting the egg hatch on its own or throwing it against the wall, but both of these methods can cause the Chao to mistrust or hate you.

Feed your Chao. Walk up to a tree and press the "Action" button. Your character will then shake the tree for fruit. If a fruit falls down, give it to your Chao.

    • 3

Show animals to your Chao. The animal color that you show is important to your Chao's evolution, because the Chao take on characteristics of the animals you show them. If you show them a variety of animals, they will grow up to be a normal Chao. Green animals produce running Chao. Red animals produce power Chao. Purple animals produce flying Chao. Yellow animals produce swimming Chao.

    • 4

Give Chaos Drives to your Chao. Like the animals, the color of the Drive that you give to your Chao will affect their evolution. The color effects are the same as they are for the animals. When you have given enough animals and Chaos Drives to your Chao, it will form a small teardrop-shaped cocoon before emerging as an adult.

Evolve your Chao further by giving them more Drives and animals. This can take much longer, as it has been shown to take an average of 250 to 500 Drives and animals to create the second Chao evolution. Some special Chao, like the Shadow Chao, can take up to 1,000 items to evolve.
