How Do I Get a Short Handed Goal in NHL Hitz 2003?

The appeal of the hockey video game "NHL Hitz 2003" for Nintendo GameCube is its ease of use. Unlike other hockey games, it requires very little time to get acquainted with the game play of the "NHL Hitz" series. Much like arcade games, this franchise is designed to excite gamers through big hits and big goals. Occasionally, you'll get a chance to score a short-handed goal, which is a way to increase your score and agonize your opponent.

Instructions

    • 1

Build a lineup that features speedy players to give you a greater chance of scoring a short-handed goal. In "NHL Hitz 2003," you play with a goalie and three skaters -- a center, a winger and a defenseman. When viewing your team's roster to choose your players, pick those who you know are fast. If you're not sure which players are fastest, pick players who are adept at scoring.

    • 2

Wait until the other team earns a penalty. Because of the aggressive nature of the game play in "NHL Hitz 2003," penalties are not called on a regular basis. Players only get penalties through fighting, which doesn't become a short-handed situation, and by running into the goalie. As such, you'll have to wait until an opponent runs into your goalie and earns a penalty.

    • 3

Win the faceoff after the penalty, if possible, and make quick passes between your players to keep the opposition chasing you around the ice.

    • 4

Pass the puck to one of your speedy forwards skating down the ice, pressing the "R" button to give your player a "Turbo" acceleration boost. When you approach the opponent's net, fire a slapshot by pressing and holding the "B" button. If you'd rather try a fancy deke than a powerful shot, turn your player quickly and press the "B" button to shoot.
