How to Get Into the Keelhaul Key Cave in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

"Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door" is the second game in the "Paper Mario" series. Players control a two-dimensional Mario in a three-dimensional world as he searches the Mushroom Kingdom to defeat Bowser one more time. There are many different levels to explore including the Keelhaul Key area in the fifth chapter. One of the main goals of the level is to make it into the cave. Getting into the cave is a simple process that can nevertheless be tricky for some players to figure out.

Instructions

- 1
  Talk to Patch after washing up on the shore of Keelhaul Key. Go to the right screen and find Flavio and Patch. Fight the ghosts that appear by using Koop turtles and avoid using fire attacks.

  Save the game and rest after Flavio nominates you to explore the island. Enter the forest at the right and keep moving till you find a "?" box and jump on top of it. Jump straight up to reveal a series of stair platforms.

  Get on Yoshi and use him to cross the blocks to the next area. Watch the scene with Bobbery and leave. Head to the left across the bridge to attack an Ember in the next screen. Use the Koop turtles again during the fight.

  Bobbery will appear and ask for Chuckola Cola. Go back to the original camp to the left and talk to Flavio to discuss the Chuckola Cola. Move back toward the bridge, go down the stairs just before the bridge and use Yoshi to get to a pipe.

  Enter the background and hit the tree to get a coconut. Take this back to Flavio to get the Chuckola Cola. Return to Bobbery and give it to him. Talk to him twice while he sleeps. Hit him with the hammer to wake him up.

  Go back to camp and talk to Flavio to add him to your part. Walk across the bridge again until you get to the skull-rock. Inspect the skull-rock and talk to Flavio to get the Skull Gem. Place this in the slot in the rock.

  Jump on the red statue and do three spin jumps and hit the blue rock with a hammer four times to open up a platform. Grab Bobbery and throw him onto the platform to have him blow up the entrance to the cave. Wait for Flavio to run off and then enter the cave with Bobbery.
