How Can I Get a Shiny Lugia in Pokemon XD?

The rare shiny Pokemon demonstrates a player's devotion to the game series, as pursuing the critters can take several hours or days. The odds of uncovering a shiny Pokemon is one in every 8,192 encounters. In "Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness," players face similar difficulties in obtaining the legendary Pokemon Lugia in a shiny form. Once purified in "Pokemon XD," players can transfer Lugia to Game Boy Advance "Pokemon" games.

Instructions

  Complete the quests and events required in "Pokemon XD." After exploring the Snagem Hideout and Cipher Key Lair, travel to Citadark Isle. Here, the player will travel through Gateon Port, Pokemon HQ Lab and Citadark Isle itself, and battle against multiple Cipher Peons. Continue until you encounter Cipher Admin Eldes.

  Battle against Eldes' Pokemon party. Most are above levels 44 and 45, and party members consist of Salamence, Lapras, Marowak, Flygon, Manectric and Ninjask. Save your game after the battle. After Eldes' defeat, proceed into the next room to face Grand Master Greevil, the main antagonist of "Pokemon XD."

  Battle against Greevil's Lugia. Throw a master ball to immediately capture Lugia. If you do not have a master ball, use a Pokemon that knows "Sleep" or "Paralysis" in battle. Weaken Lugia and throw a pokeball to capture it while it is under a status effect. Its name should appear in gold during the battle screen if it is a shiny Pokemon.

  Shut off the system and repeat these steps until Lugia's name appears in gold or yellow during the battle screen. After capturing Lugia, the player will battle Greevil again to complete the game.

  Select "Yes" when prompted to save the game after completing "Pokemon XD." Reload your saved file and travel to the Pokemon HQ Lab's Purification Chamber on Citadark Isle. Place a ground, fire, grass and water Pokemon into the circle when prompted, in that order.

  Place Shadow Lugia into the center of this grouping to purify it. Leave the other eight purification chambers empty to increase the speed of purification. Once purified, Shiny Lugia can learn new moves. Players can also trade it to other "Pokemon" games.
