How to Add GameCube LEDs

The GameCube gaming console was released in November 2001, before the

LED light trend hit gaming enthusiasts, so a new trend of making old

consoles such as the GameCube modern with LED lights is becoming more

and more popular. The most popular modification of the GameCube hardware involves adding LED lights to the controllers, since they are easier to obtain than a new console if you mess up and damage some interior elements.

Things You'll Need

  • Clear GameCube controller
  • Gamebit Screwdriver
  • 24-gauge Electrical wire
  • Wire splicer/cutter
  • Solder gun with solder
  • 2 LED lights
  • 47-OHM Resistor
  • Electrical tape

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the six screws from the back of the clear GameCube controller with the Gamebit screwdriver. Set aside the screws. Pull the controller's front and back faceplates away from one another; if they are not extremely dirty, they will pull apart with minimal effort. Set aside the back face plate with the screws and lay the front faceplate carefully so that the interior components are facing up towards you.

    • 2

Prepare about two 4-inch lengths of the 24-gauge electric wire for soldering to the two leads located on the right side of the controller. The existing white wire is positive, while the black is negative.

    • 3

Place your LED lights where you want them to sit inside your controller. Before making any positions permanent, place the back side of the controller in its place without securing it entirely, so you can ensure that you like how it looks. It is recommended to place the LEDs on both sides of the rumble pack.

    • 4

Solder the end of the first wire to the left lead on the circuit board, and the end of the second wire to the lead on the right. These leads are connected to the rumble pack feature, so the LEDs will blink in accordance with the controller's vibration.

    • 5

Grasp the wire on the left in your hand, and attach it to the left LED light by wrapping the center of the wire around the LED's prongs, and attaching the remainder of the wire to the resistor. Use the electrical tape to attach the resistor directly under the rumble pack. Repeat this step to connect the LED on the right side of the

      controller.

    • 6

Wrap all wires with electrical tape, and secure them to the body of the controller if there is excess wire. You do not want wire being in the way of any buttons, or the rumble pack.
