How to Get a GameCube Game to Spin

The Nintendo GameCube is a video game system that was released in 2001. It featured a cube-shaped box that could read the data from small discs as interactive video games. When a game disc is inserted into the GameCube, it begins spinning, meaning that the GameCube recognizes and is able to read the disc. As with many disc-based devices, however, the GameCube may have difficulty reading discs over time and eventually a disc inserted into the console may not start spinning.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your television and your GameCube, then verify that the GameCube is connected to the television by means of the RCA (yellow, red and white) cables. Make sure that the television is turned to the appropriate "Source" or "Input" channel that the Gamecube is connected to. This will allow you to see if the game is being read properly.

    • 2

Press the open button on the lid of the GameCube and insert the game disc into the tray. Make sure that you hear it "snap" into place. If the disc starts spinning at this point and the game begins playing, no further troubleshooting is needed. If the disc is not spinning or you receive a "Disc Read Error" on the screen, then proceed to the next step.

    • 3

Open the GameCube lid and remove the disc from the tray.

    • 4

Blow on the underside of the disc to clear away any loose dirt particles that may be clinging to the bottom of the disc. Reinsert the disc and close the Gamecube lid to see if the game will now play. If the disc is still not spinning, proceed to the next step.

    • 5

Open the Gamecube lid and remove the disc from the tray.

    • 6

Wipe the bottom of the disc with a soft cloth to clear away any stubborn dirt that was not previously loosened or removed.

    • 7

Reinsert the disc and close the GameCube lid to see if the system will now read the disc. If the disc is still not spinning, try inserting a different game disc. If that disc will read, then the first disc is likely damaged beyond repair. If the second disc won't read either, then there may be a problem with your GameCube.
