Football Games for Gamecube

The Nintendo GameCube was released as a follow up to the Nintendo 64 gaming console and a precursor to the interactive Wii system. Football fans have plenty of options when looking for a game that covers their sport on the GameCube. While straightforward, realistic football games such as those in the “Madden” series are available for the GameCube, the console also features football games with unique twists.
  1. "Madden NFL 08"

    • Several games in the Madden football game series were released for the GameCube, the last of which was “Madden NFL 08”. Created by EA Sports, “Madden NFL 08” hit shelves in August 2007 and is also available for Nintendo DS, Mac, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, Xbox and Xbox 360. Gamers can play as any NFL team in “Madden NFL 08” for one game, one season or an entire career. Players can select their own offensive and defensive plays, and there are multiple difficulty levels to suit each player’s skill. Players can also choose Fantasy Mode to construct fictional teams made up of real NFL players. Fantasy Mode challenges gamers to draft players while taking into consideration their abilities and salaries in reference to a fixed salary cap.

    "NFL Street"

    • EA Sports released “NFL Street” for GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox in January of 2004. Rather than present traditional football action, “NFL Street” features professional football players in casual clothes in a playground environment. Each “NFL Street” team has only seven players instead of eleven to give the game a different feel. Another big difference in “NFL Street” when compared to other football games is that there are no field goals or extra points. The only way to score is by reaching the end zone and scoring a touchdown. In general, “NFL Street” promotes more scoring and turnovers than a traditional football game.

    "NFL Blitz Pro"

    • “NFL Blitz Pro” was released by Midway in December of 2003 for GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Much like “NFL Street”, “NFL Blitz Pro” changes the way football is played to give gamers a different experience. While “NFL Blitz Pro” has traditional down yardage and eleven man teams, many of the penalties and rules of the NFL are abandoned. The game is faster-paced than traditional football simulations, and players are capable of jumping higher and running faster than normal. The action in “NFL Blitz Pro” is also more violent and exaggerated than in other football video games.
