Removing Loose Dust &Debris
Before cleaning the controller, unplug it from your GameCube gaming system. Turn the controller upside down and shake it gently to remove any loose crumbs from the device. Wipe the controller and its cable with a clean, soft cloth or rag to remove any loose dust and dirt from the device.
Supplies
Gather a drinking cup, a clean toothbrush, latex gloves, cotton swabs and a roll of paper towels. Wear the latex gloves to keep your hands clean and dry. Fill the the drinking cup with warm water, but not too hot.
Cleaning The Sticky Keys
Dip the toothbrush in the cup of water. Shake off the excess and scrub the controller's keys, control stick and the area around the keys with the damp toothbrush. Do not dip your GameCube controller into a container or sink of water—this will damage the device.
Cleaning Tight Areas
To scrub the area around the sides of the keys and control stick, dip a cotton swab in the cup of water, shake off excess and scrub the area with the damp cotton swab.
Wiping &Repeating
Wipe the keys, area around the keys and the control stick with a paper towel. Dip the toothbrush in the cup of water, shake off excess and scrub the keys again until the dirt and buildup is gone and the keys are no longer sticky.
Drying &Testing
Dry your GameCube controller thoroughly with two or more paper towels then let it air dry for two hours. Reconnect the controller and start a game. Press the “X,” “Y” and “Start/Pause” keys together to reset the controller, if the device is not working properly. Hold the keys for three seconds during game play. Do not touch the control stick. You want to keep the control stick in the center position during the resetting process.
