How to Open a Nintendo GameCube Controller

Like all video game controllers, the Nintendo GameCube controller can break after prolonged use. Troubles such as sticky buttons, loose analog sticks and nonworking buttons can plague your gaming experience. If you have diagnosed the problem as a loose internal component, you can take apart your controller and tighten it up to fix it. This is much cheaper than buying a new one or sending it in to get repaired.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip over the controller and unscrew the four screws on the bottom of the unit with the tri-wing screwdriver. If you have the wireless version of the controller, there will be an extra screw in the battery bay underneath the batteries.

    • 2

Separate the two halves of the controller. Be careful when doing so as to avoid breaking the red wire that connects both halves. Set aside the bottom cover so you can work with the top part.

    • 3

Remove the four screws that secure the main circuit board to the unit. You can then remove this component to reveal the buttons and analog sticks of the control. Proceed to make any repairs as needed.
