How to Clean Gamecube Games

The Nintendo Gamecube uses standard laser discs instead of cartridges, which is expected for a modern console. If the bottom of the game disc gets dirty, smudged or fingerprinted, the game may freeze or skip. The Gamecube's laser has difficulty reading a dirty disc. For this reason, you may need to clean your discs. Nintendo recommends a specific process for cleaning the game discs.

Instructions

    • 1

Dampen a clean cotton cloth with a small amount of water. A little bit of water is necessary to clean Gamecube discs, but too much can cause damage.

    • 2

Hold the disc by its edges, with the game label facing your palm. Start in the center of the disc with the cloth; gently work your way outward in a straight line (do not swirl or use a circular motion).

    • 3

Continue working your way around the disc, each time starting in the center and moving outward. Repeat the procedure, if needed, to optimally clean the disc.
