How to Get Mewtwo on Super Smash Bros. Melee

Super Smash Bros. Melee features characters that have appeared in Nintendo games since the inception of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Even with the characters available at the start of the game, hidden characters exist that can be unlocked through dedicated playtime. One such character is the clone Pokemon Mewtwo. Unlocking this psychic Pokemon can be accomplished using two different methods, both of which culminate in a battle against this hidden character. After his defeat, Mewtwo is available as a playable fighter in all game modes.

Instructions

700 Matches
- 1
  Compete in 700 "Vs. Mode" matches. At least one character needs to be controlled by a human player.

  Set the ̶0;Vs. Match̶1; to ̶0;Stock̶1; mode after selecting characters. Set each stock at one. The battles will pass by quickly with each player only having one life.

  Check the amount of matches you've played by selecting ̶0;Records̶1; from the main menu.

  Battle Mewtwo after he challenges you upon completing the 700th match. Defeat him to add him to your roster. If you do not defeat him, he will challenge you after each Vs. match until you are victorious.
20 Hours

  Play "Vs. Mode" for a combined total of 20 hours.

  Bypass physical playtime by starting a ̶0;Stock Vs. Match.̶1; Leave the console running and your playtime will continue to be clocked even as no on-screen action takes place.

  Defeat Mewtwo when he challenges you after 20 hours of play. He will only challenge you after a Vs. match and will continue to challenge you until he is defeated.
Defeating Mewtwo

  Attack Mewtwo with the intention of increasing his damage percentage. Avoid trying to knock him off the stage, as he is easily able to recover from falls.

  Strike Mewtwo after he jumps. He slowly falls back to the ground, leaving time for you to attack him while he remains defenseless.
- 10
  Stay on the move. Mewtwo is able to release psychic projectile attacks that can hit from a distance. Circle around him during his attacks and strike from behind.
