How to Play Four Swords Alone

"The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures" is a multiplayer-focused installment of the Legend of Zelda action-adventure games. It was released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2004. Unlike other games in the series, four Links are always present in the game. Playing the game alone requires being able to control the other three Links. A single player must set formation, change the Link they control, and break or remake formations in order to make it past the enemies and puzzles in the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the formation using the C stick on the controller. The Cross Formation is selected with C-Left. The Wide Formation is selected with C-Right. The Long Formation is selected with C-Down. The Box Formation is selected with C-Up.

    • 2

Move all four Links together using the control pad.

    • 3

Press "X" to break formation. This allows you to control one Link separately.

    • 4

Press "X" to switch between Links after the formation is broken. Some puzzles in "The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures" require moving each Link to a different location.

    • 5

Press "Y" to have the Links return to formation.
