Super Mario Sunshine Instructions

Basic Controls

• Move Mario with the control stick. Press the "A" button to jump or to swim faster when in water. Press the "B" button to talk to characters, pick up objects or dive forward.

  Move the "C" stick to control the camera position. Press "L" to center the camera behind Mario. Hold "L" and move the control stick left or right to strafe. Press "L" while Mario is in mid-air to perform a Ground Pound move. Press "Y" to fix the camera over Mario's shoulder; press it again to return the camera to normal.

  Press "R" to use the Fludd device. When equipped with the normal nozzle, press "R" all the way to blast water; aim the stream with the control stick. Press "R" lightly to blast water while moving. Press "X" to switch nozzles. When equipped with the Hover nozzle, press "R" to hover above the ground, and steer yourself with the control stick. When equipped with the Rocket nozzle, press "R" to blast into the air. When equipped with the Turbo nozzle, press "R" to dash forward.

  Press "R" while standing in water to refill your Fludd. Press "Z" to open your guidebook, which displays a map. Press "Start" to pause the game.

Advanced Moves

• Press "A" two or three times in a row to perform a double or triple jump. Tilt the control stick to the right or left and press "A" to somersault to the side. Rotate the control stick in a circle and press "A" to perform a spin jump. Jump toward a wall and press "A" when Mario hits the wall to perform a wall jump; you can jump back and forth between walls with this move.

  Press "A" near a ledge or rope to climb onto it. Press "B" to let go. Press "R" to swing on a rope, and press "A" to let go while swinging.

  When holding an object, aim with the control stick and press "B" to throw it. To push or pull an object, press and hold "B" to grab it, and tilt the control stick to move it.

  Press "A" when near Yoshi to jump on him. While on Yoshi, press "B" to swallow enemies or fruit, and press "R" to spit fruit juice. Press "X" to dismount.

Playing the Game

• Explore Delfino Island and defeat enemies to collect Shine Sprites. Blast enemies with your Fludd or jump on them to defeat them. Clean up pollution with the Fludd to unlock new areas. Avoid taking damage, or your health meter will deplete; if it empties completely, you will have to restart from an earlier checkpoint. Collect coins to restore your health. Follow the on-screen objectives to progress through the game.
