How to Find Yoshi in Super Mario Sunshine

Go to Pinna Park. This zone is opened once you have found ten shines. When you are coming back from getting the last shine, Shadow Mario will appear and kidnap Princess Toadstool. After that, you can launch yourself from the cannon to get to Pinna Park.

Pinna Park is a large amusement park. Yoshi is in Chapter Four, so first you have to beat the first three chapters. Their goals in order are to:1. Defeat Mecha-Bowser: Once you and your intrepid sidekick F.L.U.D.D. catch up with Shadow Mario, he will jump into a large robotic Bowser which will fire rockets at you while you ride in a rollercoaster. Use the water-rocket launcher to take out the rockets before they hit you and to destroy Mecha-Bowser to beat the Chapter.2. Defeat the Mole: A giant mole has gotten inside a cannon and you have to get him out. No real trick to it, just dodge, jump, and spray. Remember to use F.L.U.D.D. to control your jumps and help you dodge.3. Steal Pirate Treasure: Find the Pirate Ship ride and find the ten red coins.

Now you are in Chapter Four, and you need to help the sunflowers. They are being tormented by Snooze-A-Koopas, large, sleepy Koopas who can be awakened with a shot from F.L.U.D.D. and look like Yoshi eggs. Once they wake up, they will attempt to jump at you. Jump up and away from them as they jump and hover with F.L.U.D.D. until they fall on their back, waving their little flippers around. Do a Ground Pound right on them and they will die. Free all the sunflowers to beat the chapter.

Once you have beaten the chapter, Shadow Mario will appear behind the large statue in the plaza. He will be holding a Yoshi egg. Chase and spray him until he drops the egg and is temporarily defeated. The egg will have a thought bubble above it with a piece of fruit. Go to the various fruit vendors in the plaza until you find the fruit, buy it, and bring it back to Yoshi. The egg will hatch and now you can use Yoshi.

Using Yoshi is simple. The controls are the same as with Mario except:1. The "B" button lashes out with the tongue to eat things. You can eat most small enemies, fruits, and random objects, but not the friendly characters in the game. Eating things can make you change color, and thus changes the color of Yoshi's breath weapon.2. The "A" button will allow Yoshi to jump and run in the air, hovering for a few moments.3. The "X" dismounts Yoshi.4. The right shoulder button controls Yoshi's breath weapon, which changes color when he eats different things. Different colors do different things, and when you fire the breath weapon at various platforms later in the game they will change their direction so that you can get where you need to go.
