Why Does the Touch Screen Turn Blue and Red When I Put the Game ID in Action Replay?

When the touch screen on your Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi turns blue and red or has blue and red bars going across it after you put in the game ID in Action Replay, it means that there has been an error. The Action Replay hardware may have run out of memory room for all of your game codes or it may need to be updated. Just like your computer, the Action Replay DS will occasionally need to have its code fixed.
  1. Blue and Red Bars

    • When you manually enter a game ID in the Action Replay on your Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi and you see multicolored bars or blue and red bars on the screen after you confirm the entry, this may be caused by the Action Replay DS hardware. Occasionally, it will need to be reset in order for it to recognize and make room to save a new game code. It could be that there is no longer any memory space available on the Action Replay for a new code to be saved..

    Action Replay DS Reset

    • Resetting the Action Replay DS will erase all the codes you have entered for your DS game. It will not restore your default code list, so be sure to save the list on your PC with the Code Manager PC software prior to resetting the Action Replay DS. Turn off the DS and remove the Action Replay. Reinsert the Action Replay DS. Press and hold the "A" and "B" buttons at the same time and turn on the DS. Keep holding down the "A" and "B" buttons. When the Action Replay DS license screen appears on the DS display, press and hold the "Start" and "Select" buttons, and continue to hold down the "A" and "B" buttons. Hold all four buttons for 10 seconds. Release them once the Action Replay DS finishes loading.

    Action Replay DSi Reset

    • A Nintendo DSi may have problems with the Action Replay when the firmware is out of date. This may cause the error message "ARLE System Error" or may cause other problems, such as blue and red bars on the screen when attempting to put in a game ID. On your computer, start the DS Action Replay Code Manager software. Connect your DSi Action Replay to your computer with the USB cable. After the Code Manager detects the Action Replay Card, click the four colored circles located at the top left of the screen. Select "About Action Replay DSi Code Manager." Select "Reset Hardware." This will reset the hardware, which deletes all of the current codes saved on it. Click "OK" once it has been reset. Drag and drop the game codes that you want on your Action Replay that are located under "Subscriptions" over to "Memory Card." Click "Commit Changes" and then click "Yes."

    Update Firmware

    • If resetting the Action Replay doesn't work, manually download the firmware update from the CodeJunkies website. Unzip the firmware update file with WinZip or another program. Reinstall the Action Replay Code Manager on your computer with the included software disc that came with your Action Replay. Start the Action Replay Code Manager and then connect your DS with Action Replay to your PC with a USB cable. When the DS is found by your computer, the "Waiting for DS" message located under "Nintendo DS" will go away. At the top of the Action Replay Code Manager, near the left side of the window, there will be a page icon with the same name as the firmware update. Click and hold the icon and drag it down to the Nintendo DS window and let go of it to drop it into the window. The Action Replay firmware update will automatically begin to install on your Action Replay DS. Click "Yes" when prompted. When the firmware update is done installing, the Action Replay DS will disconnect from your PC. When the "Reboot your NDS now!" message appears on screen, restart your DS to finish the firmware update.
