How to Draw Shadow From Flipnotes on Nintendo Step-by-Step

The Nintendo DSi handheld game console allows users to download applications from the Nintendo DSi Shop. One of these applications, titled "Flipnote Studio," lets you create a digital flip book by drawing each individual frame and then playing them back in order. While there is no feature that automatically adds a shadow to your drawings, if you want a shadow to be cast from one of the objects in your Flipnote, you can draw the shadow by hand using the Nintendo DSi's stylus after you have determined the direction you want the shadow to fall.

Instructions

    • 1

Tap the Flipnote Studio application icon on the DSi's home screen. Tap the "Start" option to confirm that you want to launch the application and open Flipnote Studio.

    • 2

Tap the "Create Flipnote" option to create a new flipnote. Press the "Up" button on the DSi's D-pad to open the toolbox menu.

    • 3

Tap the "Draw" option to select the pencil tool. Use the DSi's stylus to draw an object on the flipnote canvas.

    • 4

Tap on the screen with the stylus to place a dot that represents the imaginary light source for your Flipnote drawing. The location of the flipnote's light source will determine the direction of the shadow. For example, if the light source is behind the object and to the left, the object's shadow will be cast in front of the object and to the right.

Use the DSi's stylus to shade the object's shadow, using the location of the light source as a reference point. Depending on the light source's height relative to the object, the shadow may be longer or shorter. For example, a light source that is very high relative to the object will result in a short shadow.

Tap the "Save" button to save the flipnote.
