How to Make a Background on Flipnote Studio

You can use the Flipnote Studios application on your Nintendo DSi to make complex animations that include background layers. Flipnote Studios includes an ̶0;Advanced Tools̶1; menu where you enable additional options, such as the layers utility. Once you have enabled the advanced tools you can begin to make animation designs that feature detailed backgrounds. You edit the background layer of your design separately from the top layer of your Flipnote, ensuring that the focus of your animation is not affected by your changes.

  Launch Flipnote Studios.

  Click the "Wrench" icon at the top-right corner of the screen, then navigate to the third page.

  Touch the "On" option under "Advanced Tools," then return to the Flipnote Studios home screen.

  Tap "View Flipnote" if you want to edit an existing Flipnote, or tap "Create Flipnote" if you want to create one from scratch.

  Touch the frog icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen to open the editing menu.

  Tap the "Layers" box at the center of the screen. This box is identified by the number "2" next to two sheets of paper.

  Touch "Layer 2" to select the background layer, then tap "Back" at the bottom-left corner of the screen to return to the drawing screen.

  Use your stylus to draw your background design. Note that you can access the toolbox at any time to select a different pen color or tool by pressing the "Up" arrow on your DSi.

  Return to the layers screen on the editing menu to select the top layer and complete your Flipnote. The background layer will remain untouched while you edit the top layer.
