Transfer NDS Files From a Computer to a DS via USB

Thanks to the availability of Nintendo DS homebrew, users can access games and programs not commercially distributed in stores. Such freeware is primarily played through the use of cards specifically designed for independent developers. A finished program is generally compiled in the NDS format, which is the standard extension used by such cards. Users can then transfer these files through a DS-friendly storage unit and a third-party USB device.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a Nintendo DS flash card such as the M3 Real and EZFlash. These devices typically come with a proprietary MicroSD card where all content is stored. While not available locally, you may obtain them from auction sites and online electronics outlets.

    • 2

Obtain a USB-based card reader, which allows you to transfer NDS files to the MicroSD card and ultimately to execute them on the Nintendo DS.

    • 3

Connect the MicroSD card to the USB card reader. Connect the adapter to your computer.

    • 4

Visit the flash card̵7;s main website and download its installation files. Select to download content directly to the MicroSD card from the browser̵7;s download options displayed. Note that Windows normally names such removable storage units ̶0;Removable Disk̶1; from the list of storage devices available. Ensure that you transfer the installation files to the unit̵7;s top level in its folder structure, as opposed to placing them inside an existing folder.

    • 5

Transfer your existing Nintendo DS files (such as games and programs) to any desired location within the MicroSD card. For example, right-click the Nintendo DS file or files in question and select ̶0;Copy.̶1; Click ̶0;Start̶1; and click on Computer in the right column of the menu that opens. Right-click on the MicroSD unit and select ̶0;Paste̶1; to initialize the file transfer.

    • 6

Insert the MicroSD card into the flash card̵7;s built-in slot, and then insert it to the Nintendo DS cartridge compartment.

    • 7

Turn on the device and allow the flash card̵7;s configuration files to install automatically. Once finished, you can successfully launch the NDS files previously transferred via the USB-based reader.
