What Do You Do After Catching Groudon in Pokemon SoulSilver?

"Pokemon SoulSilver," a remake of "Pokemon Silver," includes additional Pokemon and areas not seen in the original game. One of these Pokemon is Groudon, a legendary Pokemon that first appeared in "Pokemon Ruby." Groudon is not the only Generation III Pokemon to make an appearance, as it is possible to acquire Rayquaza from "Pokemon Emerald" after catching Groudon.
  1. Return to Professor Oak

    • After catching Groudon in "SoulSilver," return to Professor Oak, who speaks to you about another legendary Pokemon that is Groudon's counterpart -- the legendary Water-type Kyogre. Oak mentions that he has an item to entrust to the trainer who manages to catch both legendary Pokemon. However, Kyogre cannot be found in the wild in "SoulSilver," as it appears exclusively in "Pokemon HeartGold."

    Trading for Kyogre

    • To obtain a Kyogre, you must trade for it with a player who has captured one in "HeartGold." The Kyogre you obtain must be from "HeartGold." It cannot be the Kyogre from "Sapphire," "Emerald" or any other Pokemon game. Visit the second floor of any Pokemon Center to initiate the trade between "SoulSilver" and "HeartGold." Trade any Pokemon that is not Groudon, as Groudon is still needed.

    Receive the Jade Orb

    • Place both Groudon and Kyogre in your party or Professor Oak won't acknowledge them. Travel back to Pallet Town and enter Professor Oak's lab. He acknowledges the fact you have caught both Groudon and Kyogre and gives you a Jade Orb. This item is necessary for Rayquaza to appear. Rayquaza appears in the same location as Groudon.

    Locate Rayquaza

    • Travel to Cianwood City, located west of Route 41. Make sure you have Pokemon that know the moves "Surf" and "Rock Climb" before leaving Cianwood. Exit Cianwood City using the western exit to appear on Route 47. Navigate Route 47 until you reach the Cliff Cave. Navigate through the cave until you reach the Embedded Tower, which is the same location where you found Groudon. Upon entering the tower, you will see Rayquaza floating in the center of the room. Save your game before battling Rayquaza, as you only have one chance to capture it.

    Capturing Rayquaza

    • Press "A" while standing in front of Rayquaza to initiate the battle against it. Rayquaza, a Dragon- and Flying-type, is Level 50. To capture Rayquaza, use a move that negatively affects Rayquaza's status, such as any move that paralyzes him or puts him to sleep. Attack Rayquaza until his health bar is red, indicating he has low health. Use your strongest Pokeballs to capture him. If Rayquaza is defeated in battle or you run out of Pokeballs, reload your saved game and attempt to capture him again.
