What Is Stardust in Pokemon Diamond For?

"Pokemon Diamond" was released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS and is a member of the fourth generation of Pokemon video games. Like games from previous and later generations, "Pokemon Diamond" has several different types of items you can pick up while exploring the landscape and from acquiring Pokemon. Among the items is Stardust, an item that has no direct effect on gameplay but plays a role in helping you acquire other items.
  1. About

    • Stardust is an item found at several locations throughout the "Pokemon Diamond" landscape and is held by Staryu. The description of Stardust in the game is "lovely, red-colored sand with a loose, silky feel." The Dowsing Machine is required to find Stardust on land, and the Super Rod is needed to catch Staryu. Unlike some of the items you acquire throughout the game, you cannot use Stardust to affect gameplay, such as evolving one of your Pokemon. You can sell Stardust and use the money to purchase other items.

    Comparison to Other Pokemon Games

    • In other Pokemon games, Stardust serves the same purpose as it does in "Pokemon Diamond." Unlike some other versions of the game, including "Pokemon Gold," "Pokemon Silver," "Pokemon Crystal," "Pokemon HeartGold," "Pokemon SoulSilver," "Pokemon Black" and "Pokemon White," you can't purchase Stardust in one shop and then sell it to another shop. The chance of Staryu holding Stardust when you capture them in "Pokemon Diamond" is 50 percent, which is the same as most other versions of the game. Staryu in "Pokemon Gold,""Pokemon Silver" and "Pokemon Crystal" only have a 25 percent chance of holding Stardust.

    Locations

    • Stardust is located in Oreburgh City, Wayward Cave, Lost Tower, Mt. Coronet, Route 224 and Route 228. You'll need to use the Dowsing Machine to find the Stardust in these locations. The Dowsing Machine is an item you acquire from either Lucas or Dawn on Route 207, depending on if your character is a boy or girl. To catch a Staryu, get the Super Rod from the fisherman standing outside of Route 225 in the Fight Area. Once you acquire the Super Rod, take it to Canalave City or Sunyshore City and go fishing. You won't always catch a Staryu, and when you do, they won't always hold Stardust.

    Selling

    • You can sell Stardust to Poké Marts found throughout the game. Towns that don't have a Poké Mart, such as Cianwood City, have shops in place of Poké Marts that also buy Stardust. You can sell the item for 1,000 Pokemon Dollars. Though later generation Pokemon games have item maniacs that purchase items from you, "Pokemon Diamond" does not include item maniacs.
